NOVEMBER 29 — For most of my life, I have heard the common refrain that we Singaporeans are an apathetic bunch. No matter what the issue — foreign policy, domestic matters, civil rights — Singaporeans, it is said, will keep their heads down, put their noses to the grindstone and say: this one is none of my business.
Nov 22 — A friend stepped out for a smoke during lunch the other day and when he returned, we got talking about the shrinking habitat left available to smokers in our garden city.
NOV 15 — I’ve become rather a fan of Canada’s new Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau.
NOVEMBER 8 — Not everyone has noticed but Singaporeans are living through a revolution right now. An old and arbitrary tyranny is falling around us for a new, better order driven by technology.
NOVEMBER 1 — I have a confession. Every Friday, after I hit send on my email to get this very column to my editor, I have a moment (sometimes several depending on that week’s topic of choice) of panic.
